On December 20th, 2014 The Vice President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) - Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hai and Mr Hoshino Toshiya - The Vice Rector of Osaka University signed the cooperation agreement between VNU and Osaka University (Japan) preparing to open the training program of VJU.

Mr. Truong Tan Sang - the Chairman of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Mr. To HuyRua - Head of Personnel Department of the Central Committee of the VCP, the Chairman of the Vietnam - Japan Parliamentary Friendship; Mr. Vu Đuc Đam - the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Minister Trinh Dinh Dung - Head of the Ministry of Construction; the President of VNU; special advisor of the Vietnam - Japan Parliamentary Friendship Mr. Takebe Tsutomu; the Japanese Ambassador in Vietnam - Mr. Fukada Hiroshias well as leaders and representatives of ministries, departments attended Vietnam Japan University Groundbreaking Ceremony.

 

The Vietnam Japan University (VJU) was established on July 21st, 2014 according to Decision No. 1186/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister. VJU is expected to complete its construction in 2020 with the total investment of 365 million dollars. The school will be built in the 75 hectares campus in Hoa Lac, which is 30 kilometers to the West from the city center.

 

The school is organized following Japanese advanced universities’ model. Three main languages are Japanese, English and Vietnamese. VJU will be supported and directly participated by Japanese scientists, experts, entrepreneurs and students in Vietnam.

VJU is established with the goal of (1) an advanced university with (2) high quality, (3) international standards, and (4) carrying special values of Japanese and Vietnamese education and cultures. The schoolwill not only meet the needs of human resources for Vietnam, strengthen the cooperation between the two countries but also grow to become the prestigious university in the region.

 

The president of VNU Mr. Phung Xuan Nha emphasized that the establishment of Vietnam Japan University was an opportunity for VNU to complete the model of multidisciplinary, multi-sector university by developing advanced technology and interdisciplinary science fields, increasing international indicators and moving up in the international rankings.

 

Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said that the VJU groundbreaking ceremony was an important event not only for VNU, but also for the country in terms of developing human resources in Vietnam and the strategic partnership between two countries: Vietnam and Japan. He also suggested that VNU should focus on (1) developingthe school’s management team followedother advanced universities in the world, (2) well-established training programs from the beginning. Moreover, he also hoped that People’s Committee of Hanoi and departments of Vietnam and Japan continued to support and ensure the project implementation schedule, quality and efficiency.

 

The Japanese Ambassador in Vietnam Mr. Fukada Hiroshi appreciated the preparation on establishing training programs as well as faculty recruitment of VNU. Besides, VNU also actively organizes workshops and seminars in order to attract investment from enterprises. He said, “ As an Ambassador, I hope that the efforts of both governments will be paid off. I think VJU will be the new bridge of the two government in developing high quality human resources in Vietnam.”

 

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Takebe Tsutomu mentioned that when the Chairman of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr. Truong Tan Sang visited Japan in March 2014, the Japan-Vietnam relationship had upgraded to “Extensive Strategic Partnership”. In order to enhance the above relationship, the development of high quality human resources was indispensable to both countries.

 

Mr. Mori Mutsuya - Chief Representative of JICA Hanoi said that JICA would do its best in the early stages to implement the master programs of VJU in September 2016. The active cooperation of enterprises was also necessary to the success of VJU.
